About Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi, the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, is a Catholic feast honouring the Eucharist. It was established in the thirteenth century and falls on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday, sixty days after Easter Sunday, so its date moves each year. In some countries the church celebration is transferred to the following Sunday.

Traditions

The feast is best known for outdoor processions in which the consecrated host is carried through the streets under a canopy. Routes are often decorated with flowers, flags and temporary altars, and children in first communion clothes frequently take part.
