About Public Holidays World
Public holidays, long weekends and bridge days for 246 countries and territories.
Data source
All holiday data comes from holidays, an open-source Python library by the Vacanza team and contributors, released under the MIT licence. This site uses version0.106; the data was generated on 9 October 2026. The licence notice is included in the site’s source code (THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES).
We do not edit or add holiday dates by hand. If the library does not provide a holiday (for example many municipal holidays), it is not shown here. Official government announcements take precedence.
How holidays are classified
- Nationwide: public holidays the library lists for the whole country, or for every subdivision.
- Regional: public holidays only in some states, provinces, cantons or regions.
- Local: public holidays only in a city or local area the library models separately.
- Group: official days off for part of the population, from these library categories:Albanian community, Armenian community, Bosniak community, Catholic, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, Orthodox Christian, Protestant, Roma community, Sabian-Mandaean, Serbian community, Turkish community, Vlach community, Yazidi.
Bank, school, government, optional, unofficial and similar categories are not shown yet. Only nationwide holidays are used for the countdown, long weekends and bridge days.
Estimated dates
Some holidays depend on moon sighting or lunar calendars (for example Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha). Where the library marks a date as estimated, we label it: the date may shift by 1-2 days until officially announced.
Long weekends and bridge days
A long weekend is three or more consecutive days off made of nationwide holidays and the country’s weekend days (not every country has a Saturday-Sunday weekend). A bridge day is a single working day between a nationwide holiday and a weekend: take one day off to get several days in a row.
Leave planner
Each country page has a leave planner. Choose how many leave days you can take for one break and it lists the breaks that give the most days off in a row around nationwide holidays and weekends, and marks the leave days on the year calendar.
Holiday descriptions
Short descriptions of what a holiday marks and how it is celebrated are written by us for the main holidays of selected countries. They are general background, not official information; customs vary by region and family.
Weather and trip ideas
Typical weather is the average for each calendar day over 2015–2024 for the area around each place, fromNASA POWER daily data. These data were obtained from the NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) POWER Project funded through the NASA Earth Science/Applied Science Program. Place locations come from Natural Earth (public domain). These are past averages, not forecasts.
Weather forecasts (the weather now and for the next days, and for holidays and trip dates up to about 9 days ahead) come from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute’s Locationforecast service, “Data from MET Norway”, under the CC BY 4.0 licence. Our server fetches them for fixed places and keeps each one for 30 minutes.
“Where to go” ideas for popular long weekends are chosen and written by us. They are not sponsored. Where we know when flights for a holiday were historically cheapest (for example from published Google Flights analyses), we show it with the source; past patterns do not guarantee future prices.
World clock
Time zones per country come from the IANA time zone database (public domain); your browser applies current offsets and daylight saving, so clock changes appear on the map automatically. Time zone areas on the map come fromtimezone-boundary-builder, © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the ODbL. Country outlines are from Natural Earth (public domain); the day and night shading is calculated from the sun’s position.
Flags
Country flags are from the open-source flag-icons project (MIT licence).
