Pentecost Monday, also known as Whit Monday, is the day after Pentecost Sunday, which commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles. It is a public holiday in a number of countries. Its date depends on Easter, and Western and Orthodox churches often observe it on different dates.
Traditions
Some churches hold services, but for many people the day is mainly a chance for rest, family outings and local festivals, as it completes a long weekend. In some regions fairs, concerts and other local events are held on this day.
