About All Saints' Day

In Spain, All Saints' Day, Todos los Santos, is above all a day for remembering deceased relatives. It is widely observed across the country, and many people travel to their home towns or villages to visit family graves and spend the day with relatives.

Traditions

Families visit cemeteries to clean and decorate graves with flowers. Typical sweets include buñuelos, small fried dough balls, and huesos de santo, marzipan rolls shaped like bones. In some places the play Don Juan Tenorio is traditionally performed around this time. In Catalonia the festival of the Castanyada is celebrated with roasted chestnuts and panellets.
