About Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day
Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day on 19 May marks the day in 1919 when Mustafa Kemal, later known as Atatürk, landed at Samsun on the Black Sea coast. His arrival is regarded as the beginning of the Turkish War of Independence. Atatürk dedicated the day to the youth of the country.
