About Epiphany

Epiphany on 6 January, known in Austria as Heilige Drei Könige (Three Holy Kings), is a public holiday nationwide. In Austria it is closely linked with the Sternsinger, a carol-singing custom organised by Catholic parishes that has become one of the country's best-known charitable traditions.

Traditions

In the days around Epiphany, children dressed as the Three Kings and carrying a star go from house to house singing and collecting donations for development projects. They often write the letters C+M+B with the year in chalk above the door as a blessing for the household.
