About Constitution Day
Constitution Day commemorates the promulgation of the Mexican Constitution on 5 February 1917 in Querétaro. Drafted at the end of the Mexican Revolution, it remains the country's constitution and was notable for its early social provisions, including labour rights, land reform and secular public education. Since 2006 the holiday has been observed on the first Monday of February.
Traditions
Official ceremonies are held, including an event in Querétaro, usually attended by the President, at the Teatro de la República, where the constitution was drafted. Schools often hold civic ceremonies honouring the flag around the date.
