About Holi
Holi is a Hindu spring festival celebrated at the full moon of the month of Phalguna. Known as the festival of colours, it welcomes the arrival of spring and celebrates the triumph of good over evil, recalling the legend of the devotee Prahlad and the demoness Holika. It is also associated with stories of Krishna and Radha.
Traditions
On the evening before, bonfires known as Holika Dahan are lit. On the day itself, people of all ages throw coloured powder and water at one another in the streets, visit friends and family, and share sweets such as gujiya and drinks such as thandai. Customs vary considerably between regions.
