About Id-ul-Fitr
Id-ul-Fitr, also known as Eid al-Fitr, is the Islamic festival that marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting from dawn to sunset. It falls on the first day of the month of Shawwal in the Islamic lunar calendar, and its exact date depends on the sighting of the new moon, so it may be observed a day apart in different places.
Traditions
Muslims attend special congregational prayers in the morning, often wearing new clothes, and give charity so that people in need can also celebrate. Families visit relatives and friends and exchange greetings. Sweet dishes such as sevaiyan, a vermicelli preparation, are commonly served.
