About Christmas Day
Christmas Day, Juldagen, is a public holiday in Sweden, but the main celebration traditionally takes place on Christmas Eve, when families gather for the Christmas buffet and exchange presents. Christmas Day is therefore a quieter day, with its own church tradition.
Traditions
A traditional custom is julotta, an early morning church service on Christmas Day, often held by candlelight. After the festivities of Christmas Eve, many families spend the day resting at home, eating leftovers from the julbord and visiting relatives.
